The flag at Macclesfield Town Hall has been lowered as a mark of respect for last week's deadly stabbing of Sir David Amess.

In a statement, Cheshire East Council, who own the Georgian municipal building said: "The flag is at half-mast for the Essex MP Sir David Ames, who was killed last Friday."

In the hours after his death, the Southend West MP was paid tribute by Macclesfield's MP David Rutley.

The flag has been not fully-raised three times this year.

The first was for the death of Prince Philip in April, and the second was for a Cheshire East Councillor who passed away in June.

It is unknown when the flag will be raised once more.
