Macclesfield Nub News has investigated why the flag atop Macclesfield Town Hall is at half-mast.

The Cheshire East flag has not been raised in full due to the death of an ex-councillor.

David Brickhill, former councillor and current Honorary Freeman and Honorary Alderman of Cheshire East Borough Council, sadly passed away.

The Cheshire ex-public servant died on June 11.

He would often attend council meetings when held in Macc.

The Market Place municipal building has lowered their flag all last week to honour their recently deceased colleague.

He died peacefully in the care of staff at Hollymere House Care Home in Haslington, near Crewe.

Even though Macclesfield Town Council operate from there, the Town Hall is actually owned by Cheshire East Council.

Hence, the honouring of the 83-year-old Cheshire public servant.

His funeral happened on Friday.

But the flag was not raised until early this week, as a lasting tribute to the Mr Brickhill.

A spokesperson for Cheshire East Council said: "It was with sadness that we learned of the death of former councillor and Honorary Alderman and Freeman of the borough David Brickhill. He was 83.

"David served the community as an elected member for both Cheshire East Council and the former Nantwich Borough Council for more than 40 years.

"Our condolences and deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends."

David Brickhill survived by his four children, two stepchildren and their families, and will be sadly missed.

Macclesfield Nub News sends condolences to his family.

Our sister site, Crewe Nub News, reported on David's death in further detail.
