A Macclesfield pub owner and water expert has seen global success in 2022, through a series of viral TikToks.

Doran Binder (50), of The Crag Inn in Wildboarclough, posted a TikTok on Thursday which has had a quarter of a million views.

The short video, reveals his personal experience of doubling his water intake to drinking four litres of water per day.

"It is important to understand to not down litres of water at a time, it can be really harmful for your body," he said.

"If you are going to have a go at drinking more water, do it slowly, do it gradually, find out how much you are already consuming and then start increasing gradually over time.

"I was nervous, I was worried about weeing all night. But what shocked me was that I slept the first night without going to the toilet, which completely surprised me.

"I had the best nights sleep I had in years, before I went to sleep I drank about 250ml of water. I thought it was a really stupid idea, but it wasn't.

"I opened my eyes when I woke up in the morning and laughed. My eyes felt completely different. They didn't feel irritable or dry, it almost felt like superman eyes.

Most of Doran's water intake is Crag Spring Water, but he will also consume a European water with higher minerality.

"And three months after doubling my water intake, the way my eyes feel is really fantastic.

"My skin felt really good. I noticed my bowel movement was better. And I felt an inner glow, a feeling of happiness which felt like a tingle on the back of my neck.

"One of the most interesting things in the past three months I've doubled my water intake, the more water I'm drinking, the thirstier I am."

"I think the brain misinterprets signals of thirst for hunger."

Doran highlights at the start of many of his clips that he is not a medical professional, but is just sharing his personal experience of the benefits from drinking more H20.

Doran took over Wildboarclough pub The Crag Inn in 2016, and has been bottling his own spring water there, as well as serving some of the world's finest waters.

Following a slew of national media appearances - and being featured in Macclesfield Nub News - Doran is now expanding his water empire on the Chinese-American social media website under the name @beardedwatersommelier.

As well as his recent TIkTok's hitting four and five figures, Doran has 4474 followers on TikTok.

In another TikTok posted this week, the Macclesfield dad and certified water sommelier collaborated with fellow water influencer Martin Riese, to call out CocaCola's bottled water brand Smartwater.

The British version of the Smartwater product is described as 'made from British spring water which is vapour-distilled before electrolytes are added. It has a distinctive, crisp, clean taste and is produced and bottled in Morpeth, Northumberland'.

But Doran said "this process is ecologically unsound and pointless".

"Spring water in the UK needs to be bottled at source, it will have all the right minerals in it naturally. It is quite unclear if this is actually happening.

"As it states on the side label it is Spring water, but not on the front. Also, if the product is in fact spring water there is no reason whatsoever to vapourise anything! They are in fact removing all the goodness – they are boiling the water until it turns into vapour and then condensing it back into liquid before adding back in the calcium, magnesium and potassium they have taken out – when you say it out loud it is ludicrous!"

Doran continued: "So, the manufacturers of Smartwater are effectively removing the good stuff and then putting it back in – all at the cost of the environment and the purse strings of the UK consumer!

"My questions are really clear – what is in these bottles, where is it from and why do they do this seemingly pointless process?"

The CocaCola company have been contacted for comment.
