Macclesfield: It is the first Treacle Market of the year! And here's what we can expect...

As January doesn't have a festive theme unlike the past two Christmas ones, the Treacle Market organisers Andy and Becky Thompson have decided to mix-it-up and add a plethora of new stalls.

An eye-catching one, and suited to this month in particular, a non-alcoholic wine stall will be in Market Place. Carpe Diem Wine come from Manchester and hope to establish themselves as a Treacle mainstay.

"I'm excited as non-alcoholic drinks is a massively growing industry, to to off your Dry January why not give them a try," said Andy Thompson.

Among the other stalls making their Treacle debut, is a charity in St Michael's Churchyard. Macclesfield Cats Protection Branch will have tombola, cakes and craft items, with all proceeds going towards their cause.

The bar in Market Place this month will be Volcanic Potions, the Stoke-on-Trent cocktail experts are returning from their Treacle Market debut in September.

The reason for a lot of new stalls, is that all-year-round vendors like to take January off, in the hopes it would be less busy. But in reality, it is anything but. This will be a busy Treacle as ever, and the weather looks alright to boot.

Outside of the 140 stalls, there will also be entertainment debuts for the first Treacle Market in six weeks.

As the weather for the last two Treacle Markets had hindered musical ambitions for expanding the music side of the Market, 2022 is starting with a big bang.

Conundrum, an African drumming collective from Compstall, will be making their Treacle debut, and providing a bit of culture not seen in a Treacle Market of recent memory. The band's motto is (jokingly) Straight outta Compstall.

But if you fancy something a little more sedate, you can join Scoop and Scales walking around town as they conduct a litter pick in the early afternoon.

Proper Sound on Chestergate have a new addition to this month's Treacle Market. They'll have a new branded gazebo with hot buttered rum branded gazebo and donut muffins.

Andy and Becky, who have co-organised the Treacle Market for six months now, want to start implementing more new ideas in 2022.

This includes setting up a website for Treacle Market stalls, where you can buy vendors' products all-month round, and will be particularly beneficial to Macclesfield Treacle sellers who do not have much of an online presence.

The Treacle Market also hope to host extra events in 2022 with the Treacle brand, to further expand their relationship with Macclesfield businesses, and attract visitors from further afar to lay claim to Macclesfield becoming 'a destination town'.

Running from 10:30 as ever on Sunday, the Treacle Market can be followed on Facebook.
