Two cars were involved in a drink driving incident at the weekend, with the victim 'lucky' to escape without serious harm.

It happened near a bend on The Silk Road, just weeks before it is set to partially shut next month.

Cheshire Police said online: "This evening PC Burness & PC Howard were on mobile patrol when they came across a road traffic collision on the A523 Silk Road. It quickly became apparent that a 21 year old male was under the influence of alcohol."

"The male FAILED the roadside breath test procedure, providing a sample of 84. The legal limit being 35. The male was arrested and taken into Police custody.

"The second driver was extremely lucky to walk away without significant injury."

The cops finished off their post with an all-caps directive to "DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE".

The unnamed 21-year-old, from Staffordshire, will face court next month.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: "Officers were called at 6.50pm on Friday 17 December following reports of a collision on the Silk Road, Macclesfield involving a blue Nissan Qashqai and a black Vauxhall Corsa.

"The driver of the Nissan, a woman, sustained minor injuries."
