Macclesfield's Cat and Fiddle Road named one of 'Best Driving Routes in UK'
A Macclesfield road has been named one of the one of the best driving routes in the UK.
A new survey by Heritage Car Insurance, who offer insurance for classic cars, have curated the list to encourage us to enjoy the open road again now that all coronavirus restrictions are over.
Macclesfield's The Cat and Fiddle Road, and the Peak District roads it leads onto, were selected as one of the 12 best road trips in the UK.
It made the list alongside The Cotswold Drive, Jurassic Coast and Dartmoor, along with numerous scenic Scottish roads.
Known for the many bends among the high elevation of 1,690 feet, the popular motorcyclist route links Macc to Buxton in the High Peak.
The road was reduced to a 50mph speed limit a decade ago, which allows road users and passengers take in the nearby beautiful scenery, including Macclesfield Forest.
The Macclesfield highway comprises parts of the A537, A54 and A53.
The road houses the second-highest pub in England, The Cat and Fiddle Inn, which has just re-opened after a period of closure.
The UK's highest distillery is located at the end of Cat and Fiddle Pass. Gin and whiskey tours are available, and is a great day out for Maxonians.

The list did recognise The Cat and Fiddle as one of the most dangerous roads in the UK, however, it is set to become a little less dangerous in the future.
