Macclesfield's Christmas shoppers to get two days of free parking

A number of Macclesfield car parks will have free parking on two days in the run-up to Christmas to encourage people to shop locally.

The town council announced that seven car parks will allow shoppers to park for free on Wednesday 16 and Saturday 19 December from 10am.

The move comes after Cheshire East Council blocked moves by the Conservative group to allow more free parking across the borough last week.

Town councils have the power to allocate a number of free parking days each year, which they normally do around Christmas.

In a social media post, the council said: "Come into town and finish your Christmas shopping. #shoplocalmacclesfield and support your local businesses."

The eligible car parks are:

Duke Street

Exchange Street

Churchill Way

Park Green

Sunderland Street

Whalley Hayes

Town Hall.
