Macclesfield's Labour councillors welcome £53m investment in borough's roads

Macclesfield's Labour councillors have welcomed the investment being made into the area's roads.
Earlier this week, Cheshire East Council announced that more than £53 million is to be spent on improving the borough's highways and transport infrastructure over the next 12 months.
It is the largest such investment made in 10 years.
Vice chair of highways and transport and councillor for Macclesfield Central, Liz Braithwaite, said: "Our priority is to keep Cheshire East moving – whether that's by car, bus, bike, or on foot.
"This is a major step forward and we will continue to press for sustained government support and make every pound count by prioritising the right work in the right place at the right time."

The investment includes a direct council contribution of £14.4 million, complemented by over £38.6 million in Labour Government funding.
This includes a £7.75 million Transport Grant, a £5.4 million Local Bus Grant, and up to £5.5 million for highway maintenance.
Locally, over the next 12 months, Cheshire East Council has promised to undertake repair works on the B5470 Macclesfield Road in Rainow.
Repairs will also be made to Mill House Bridge on the A523 Manchester Road in Adlington.
Funds will also help to extend the 'Silk Town Ticket' trial until next March, as well as continue the '16-19 Bus Saver' discount scheme.
Council leader Nick Mannion, councillor for Macclesfield West and Ivy, said: "We are now seeing the impact of the Labour government's commitment to funding the infrastructure our communities depend on.
"For too long, our roads and transport networks have been neglected.
"This high level of investment in Cheshire East marks a real shift – from short-term patching to long-term planning, from neglect to progress."
