Next year will see the 40th anniversary of 'Live Aid'.

And it will also see a Macclesfield take on the music fundraising concert.

Hospice Aid, will be local musician's take on the fundraising power of music.

The concert, set to take place on July 12 2024 (one day before Live Aid 40), will be held at Cinemac Live on Roe Street.

Funds will be raised for palliative care centre East Cheshire Hospice, of Millbank Drive, Broken Cross and Upton ward, Macclesfield.

Organiser Doug Skelton has already held fundraising concerts for the 38-year-old good cause.

And while tickets are not yet on sale, with a line-up still to curate, Doug spoke to Nub Nead about what we can expect from next summer's charity concert.

"Next year marks 40 years since Live Aid 1985, an opportunity I felt too good to miss," said Doug.

"Myself and Beth Moss, and numerous Macclesfield-based bands have begun putting together a tribute show, bringing together a host of musicians from in and around the local area.

"We will be performing our take on many of the original songs played at the original Live Aid gig. We have already scheduled the show for Saturday 12th July 2025 at Cinemac."

You can watch the original live aid by clicking the play button above.

But some of the artists the Macclesfield performers participating could cover range from Madonna, Status Quo, Elvis Costello, to The Cars.

Queen, David Bowie, and Bob Dylan also performed at the original Live Aid which fundraised to fight famine. Macclesfield's take on the super-fundraiser aims to raise five-figures for the award-winning end-of-life care centre.

Local sponsors for the event are sought, and tickets will eventually go on sale on THIS LINK.

"Our intention is to raise a total of £10,000 through ticket sales, individual donations through JustGiving and corporate sponsorships which we will spend the coming months sourcing," told Doug.

"We are also looking to involve several local venues in constructing the project to ensure word spreads across the area."

Doug, who is a musician himself with the band The Cinema Show, can be contacted by those who want to help out at the event.

East Cheshire Hospice marketing and communications manager Luke Brightmore said: "Our heartfelt thanks and good luck to Doug and all involved in bringing this incredible Live Aid tribute to life next summer. It's inspiring to see the community come together to recreate the magic of such an iconic concert, all while supporting the vital work of the Hospice."

"It's especially exciting since Doug and friends' previous fundraising event, 'The Cinema Show; was such a brilliant success. We're truly grateful for the support and excited to see Macclesfield come out for this special show in July 2025!"
