A man banned from every Co-op in Cheshire has been accused of breaching a court order.

Christopher Downes was arrested by officers from Macclesfield Local Policing Unit on Tuesday, April 8.

The 61-year-old, of Bollington Road, was subsequently charged with theft from a shop and breach of a criminal behaviour order.

It is alleged that Downes stole steak and champagne, worth £65, from the Co-op store in Bollington on Thursday, April 3.

By doing so he was breaching a court order made by Crewe Magistrates Court on August 7, 2023.

Under the terms of this order, Downes was banned from entering Macclesfield town centre as well as any Co-op store within Cheshire for the next two years.

He was remanded in custody and was due to appear at Chester Magistrates Court today, April 9.
