Macclesfield's youngest landlady has taken over one of the area's oldest pubs.

Twenty-six-year-old Emily Taylor is the new landlady of Ye Olde Kings Head in Gurnett, which dates back to the 17th century.

She is no stranger to the pub scene, having first worked as a pot wash when she was just 12-years-old.

"Pubs are all I've ever really known," she said.

"My mum always said I'd be a hotel or restaurant manager one day and I'd argue with her and say I don't want to do that.

"Now I find myself at 26 being the landlady of a very well-established pub thinking, yep mum is always right!"

She added: "I don't like to blow my own trumpet, but I don't know of many people my age that are doing this.

"It's a huge responsibility at this age to take on something so huge."

Emily was born in Cheltenham but moved up to Wincle when she was eight years old.

She started as a pub pot wash when she was 12 and quickly worked her way up the ladder.

Around three and a half years ago she joined Ye Olde Kings Head, officially taking over as landlady on Monday, January 13.

"I have gotten out of bed with a grin on my face every day this week," she said.

"I'm very new to the role but it feels like I've been here forever.

"I haven't reinvented the wheel, and I don't really intend to change much because if it's not broken it doesn't need fixing.

"We've got the same staff, the same beers and the same food.

"I can't wait to see what the future holds!"

Having worked in the industry for so long, Emily has no illusions about the potential challenges that lie ahead, such as rising costs and dwindling rural trade.

However, thanks to the support of her regulars she is confident the future is bright.

She said: "Our customers and staff all contribute to making the Kings Head what it is. It's like one big family.

"Our locals are die-hard Kings Head, and they won't let this place succumb to those economic factors.

"We rely on them massively, particularly at a time like dry January. Even those who are doing it continue to visit us as we offer a selection of non-alcoholic beers, gin and wine."

The locals have welcomed Emily into her new role with open arms, even making her a new sign for one of the pub's taps.

"One of our staple beers is Timothy Taylor's Landlord. So, with that being my surname they changed it to Emily Taylor's Landlady which was a really lovely touch.

"It's been a really lovely start and long may it continue!"
