A Macclesfield gym is in 'dire need' of an upgrade, say its members.

Everlast Gyms are being asked to make 'urgent' improvements to their gym on Pickford Street.

Issues include broken gym equipment, mouldy showers, cancelled classes and a swimming pool that has been out-of-action for large chunks of the year.

One user, who asked to remain anonymous, says he is now preparing to quit the gym, having been a member for over a decade.

He said: "Customers are fed up with the service, the extremely poor communication, poor hygiene and maintenance across all areas of the gym.

"They need to remember that there are multiple gym and swim options in Macclesfield that are similarly priced.

"It is a competitive space and people are leaving because of these issues.

"The gym is in dire need of an upgrade."

The member continued, explaining that the issues have become more prevalent this year.

In spring, the swimming pool began experiencing sporadic closures, lasting anything from a day to a week or more.

It has now been shut since mid-August, leaving the member feeling Everlast Gyms have broken their contract.

He said: "Equipment is regularly broken for weeks or even months at a time and the pool has been shut collectively for over two months this year, with no reduction in fee and barely an apology.

"Showers are mouldy and riddled with flies and in recent weeks, burst water pipes have completely closed the gym.

"It seems to be a case of waiting for stuff to break and then reacting, as opposed to preventative measures."

He continued: "To improve, they need to fix the pool urgently and, until it's done, reduce the amount we're paying in direct debits.

"Staff are now, understandably, cagey around information they give out and are a bit defensive about being asked, presumably because they had the same question 1,000 times about when the pool and other maintenance issues will be fixed."

Macclesfield Nub News approached Everlast Gyms for comment on Thursday, September 3.

Acknowledgement of this contact was provided a week later.

However, at the time of writing, September 17, the company has not yet provided any response to the issues raised.
