Happy Christmas Macclesfield! Please find a Christmas message from Mayor of Macclesfield Fiona Wilson, to Macclesfield Nub News readers:

As we approach the festive season, I've been thinking back over my last seven months as Mayor and looking forward to 2023 and the great things we have planned.

My Mayoral theme is 'Our Community, Stronger Together' and I want to thank all the volunteers and organisations that work so hard and do so much for the people of Macclesfield.

It has been a pleasure to attend many events and occasions to see at first hand the difference made by our wonderful volunteers.

Proclamation of the Accession

It's also been an honour to visit schools, care homes and attend the many concerts and carol services that the Mayor is invited to. I've also been fund raising for my Mayoral Charities Macclesfield Youth Brass Band (MYBB) and North West Air Ambulance Charity.

My highlights for the year have been my Centenary Picnic in South Park, having the honour to Proclaim the Accession of our new King, Macclesfield winning Gold at Britain in Bloom and the Remembrance Service and Parade which were very well attended this year and were a fitting tribute to those who gave their lives in the service of our country,

It's part of my role to promote Macclesfield and the Town Council puts on many events in the Town Centre to encourage people to come to Macclesfield and support our many local businesses.

Our recent Step into Christmas event attracted an extra 7,000 visitors and businesses had a bumper day of trade with the town buzzing with extra visitors who were also entertained by local musicians, singers and dancers.

For 2023 we will be continuing with our plans to replace the pavilion in South Park. Following a series of consultation events, the final design is now at the planning stage and work will start in the Spring.

We are also planning a number of events to celebrate Chinese New Year, a Lantern Parade, Easter and the King's Coronation.

On behalf of myself, my Consort Brian and Macclesfield Town Council, I wish you all a very Happy Christmas and a wonderful New Year.

Cllr Fiona Wilson

Mayor of Macclesfield
