New club seeks to help the dads of Macclesfield open up
By Matthew Hancock-Bruce 25th Jan 2026
A new club is looking to unite the dads of Macclesfield.
Macclesfield Dads Club launches in February - the brainchild of 35-year-old, Rob Garner.
The father of two set up the first such club in Davenham in March 2025 and has decided to expand the initiative to Macclesfield following its success.
He said: "It started from a single act of care – one dad noticing another struggling and deciding to act.
"What began as a casual 'chat over a pint' turned into a gathering of 40 men, proving the need for connection among fathers.
"From that first meeting, the club has grown into a community hub where men of all ages meet regularly to share, socialise, and support one another."
Asked why he chose Macclesfield, Rob said: "I decided that Macc was a great option for the next club due to the demographics of the area.
"It's rural, there's a big rugby club and it's known for sports.
"Plus, I have a good friend, Chris Jones, who has played a big part in my life and has been a role model of mine since I was 15. He is someone whose values I have learnt from and admired.
"He has a passion for helping dads so we linked up to support the dads of Macc."

The club is designed to be 'deliberately casual', involving things such as pub nights, quiz evenings and pizza socials.
It is designed to create a supportive space where fathers can talk openly, share stories and connect with like-minded men.
This in turn helps to break down isolation and promotes mental wellbeing.
The first session in Macclesfield takes place on Tuesday, February 3, at Macclesfield Rugby Union FC on Priory Lane.
Rob added: "People can get involved simply by turning up.
"I do my best to keep it completely free, just enough for a drink or a pint if you wish."
