The building, which turned 35 this year, has found a new purpose.

A new MOT garage could be coming to Macclesfield.

A Cheshire East planning application reveals a request for a new MOT garage inside Calamine House, on Calamine Street.

The unit has previously been occupied by Lead Precision Machine Tools Limited, who dissolved in March last year following liquidation.

As it was a general industrial unit before, a change of use application is required.

The planning application asks for a "Change of use to MOT Testing Centre (Sui Generis) to include alterations to existing roller shutter door and the addition of a new roller shutter door to front elevation."

The prospective new motors business would be open 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday, and 8am to 12pm on a Saturday.

Macclesfield residents can read - and respond - to the plans via this link.

Earlier in the year, the south Macclesfield site was on the market for £32,000 rent per annum.

It is not yet known how many new jobs will be created by this potential new venture.
