A Bollington woman has started her own pet food business, to make sure our furry friends get a better diet.

Dog trainer Charlene Tildsley has recently launched a kibble-based pet food brand with an emphasis on health.

The Countryman's Choice was established after she switched her dog Diesel to a less processed diet, and saw health benefits.

Charlene grew up in Bollington, and recently moved to Macclesfield, where she came up with the idea for her pet food brand.

"The Countryman's choice is a high quality dried dog food company", said Charlene.

"The business was inspired by my chocolate Labrador, who when he was a puppy ate a very well-known branded food.

"But I noticed quite quickly that he had an intolerance towards it.

"He had an upset stomach, dry skin and a dull coat. So I moved him onto a grain-free diet.

"I started training him as a working dog, but wanted a better protein source for him. When I started looking, everything was really expensive or not of the quality I wanted. So I then founded my own brand Countryman's Choice.

"I offer grain free and hypoallergenic feeds each with a blend of high-quality proteins, using freshly prepared human grade meat and vegetables that provide a balanced and highly nutritional diet.

"The Countryman's Choice is available in nine flavours. Our food is perfect for those fussy eaters, and our grain-free ranges are perfect those with sensitive stomachs.

"My business is online, and get customers from all over the country, but I am trying to get more customers closer to home. You can buy smaller bags at Wet Paws Dog Grooming where I also work part-time on Bollington's Crossfield Road."

Products range from rabbit and sweet potato wish raspberry to tuna with broccoli. They use human-grade meat.

Charlene, who has two dogs herself, featured her dog Diesel on the branding, but sadly passed away recently.

It is Charlene's second local business she has ran, having previously owned a beauty salon in Bollington.

"When I switched my dog to a diet like this he had so much energy, seemed happier and a lot of his problems had cleared up", added Charlene.

"As I also work as a dog groomer in Bollington, I see lots of dogs who come in with recurring ear infections, dry skin and sensitive stomachs.

"When you get talking to people, you will realise that they feed their dogs big branded processed food, and you start to piece thinks together.

"So we advise to use better quality food like mine to have a healthier dog, and reduce the cost of vet bills. I saw it myself with Diesel.

"I offer free samples on Instagram and at Wet Paws in Bollington. I also sell treats too."
