New pottery business to come Macclesfield town centre
A new pottery shop is coming to Park Green.
The new venture is located next to Balti Kitchen, the long-serving Indian restaurant.
The Clayrooms is an expansion of an independent pottery workshop already located in Ashbourne, Derbyshire.
Their new Macclesfield pottery studio offers Maxonians a chance to play with clay and fire creativity.
The Clayrooms pride themselves on making pottery accessible, and have already cultivated a community of potters at their pre-existing site, which they aim to replicate in Macclesfield.
"The Clayrooms is proud to announce the opening of their second fabulous venue which builds on the success of their Ashbourne branch," said the business in a statement sent to Macclesfield Nub News.
"The Clayrooms Macclesfield will be run by Matt Whiting, a recent first class honours graduate in ceramics from Staffordshire University."
Their new Macclesfield site will have an open weekend on September 16 and September 17.
Punters can head in to their premises, of 20A Park Green, form 10am to 4pm.
On the day people will have the chance to view the dedicated facilities that cover all aspects of pottery making, get hands on with clay and talk to the team.
The Clayrooms Macc will have three main offerings: two-hour workshops and seasonal events throughout the year where people have the chance to try their hand at pottery and make something; six-week blocks of two-hour classes with courses structured to enable and inspire future makers, ending with a mini-exhibition; and membership for more independent makers and learners, which includes studio time, timetabled technical support, use of the in-house clay and glaze and with a chance to exhibit.
The team will also be running off site events for larger groups, going into schools and running the now famous 'pottery@thepub' events in local pubs and venues.
"Macclesfield is such a great town we are thrilled to be opening here!" added The Clayrooms Co-Founder Sarah Heaton.
"There is a real movement at the moment of independent makers and interest in activities such as baking, sewing and making generally. We get lots of enquiries from all over the country from people asking where they can learn pottery for themselves, and so it seemed the perfect time to expand and spread the clay love!"
"We want The Clayrooms to be somewhere where people come and not only learn new skills in a friendly environment, but also feel inspired to use those skills to create something beautiful. Macclesfield seems like the perfect location to make this happen."

While Macclesfield's nearby city of Stoke has been long-associated with ceramic arts, Macc has larger pottery scene than you'd think.
The Clayrooms will be the second ceramics business to open up on our high street this year. Just two minutes away by foot, is ceramics and plant studio Woe Studio.
Furthermore, a more appointment-only potter studio for those looking to get in to pottery, opened up in the spring in east Macclesfield.
The town also has individual pottery champions like Will Boyce, Freckle and Fern Ceramics, and Claire Elizabeth Ceramics.
