An Olympian will open a new supermarket in Macclesfield next month.

Tokyo 2020 Team Hockey Bronze Medal winner Sarah Jones will open Macclesfield's new Aldi store.

The Barracks Mill Retail Park store will be opened by the Welshwoman on Thursday October 13 at 8am.

There will be free fresh produce given out for the first 30 customers.

The new store, which will create close to 50 jobs, are still hiring on their website.

Macclesfield charities can even pick-up unwanted food and products from the new store. Those interested should introduce themselves to the new store via [email protected].

It is Macclesfield's second Aldi store. It is presumed the store on Macclesfield's Queen Victoria Street will remain open and co-exist alongside the new store.

This is evidenced by the town centre store also hiring, alongside this new Barracks Mill store.

Aldi is located inside the new Barracks Mill Retail Park.

Aldi have been approached for comment regarding this.

Aldi Store Manager Ben Lomas said: "We can't wait to open the doors to the new store in Macclesfield. It's set to be a special day and having Olympic hero Sarah Jones join us will make it a morning to remember."

Hockey star Sarah Jones added: "I'm so excited to be opening Aldi's new store; it will be great to chat to customers and a lovely way for me to thank Aldi for its support of Team GB."

The new store's opening hours will be Monday - Saturday: 08:00-22:00 and Sunday 10:00-16:00. (Image - Alexander Greensmith / Macclesfield Nub News)
