New data has revealed how many people in Macclesfield and the surrounding areas have died due to Covid-19 related illness.

Figures compiled by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) show a total of 107 people died of coronavirus in the local area between 1 March and 30 June and were registered by 11 July 2020.

The death tolls for each area, as recorded by the ONS, are as follows:

Gawsworth and Macclesfield Forest- 12

Macclesfield Weston- 9

Central Macclesfield- 8

Macclesfield South and Lyme Green- 6

Macclesfield East and Hurdsfield- 9

Macclesfield Bollinbrook-22

Macclesfield Upton Priory and Greenside- 8

Macclesfield Tytherington- 6

Prestbury and Addlington- 20

Bollington - 7

These figures record deaths where coronavirus was the underlying cause or was mentioned on the death certificate as a contributory factor.

The data reveals that the Macclesfield Bollinbrook area has seen the highest number of recorded deaths at 22. This area does include the hospital, but these figures are compiled using the deceased's home address.

The Gawsworth and Macclesfield Forest area, with 12 recorded deaths, takes in a large rural area surrounding the town and takes in villages including Langley, Sutton, Rainow and Over Alderley.

The figures do not provide a breakdown of whether a person's registered address was at a care home or in the community.

A map published by the ONS today pinpoints the areas where the deaths were recorded but does not show the precise location.

To protect confidentiality, a small number of deaths have been reallocated between neighbouring areas and the figures exclude death of non-residents.

The ONS map can be found here.
