'One-stop shop' convenience store opens in Macclesfield town centre

A new convenience store has opened right in the centre of Macclesfield.
Mini Pound+ Shop has opened for business on Queen Victoria Street, taking over the unit recently vacated by The Wardrobe, a women's clothing boutique.
The new store is owned by Waheed Farooqi Zargar, who many will know from Afghan Pure in the indoor market, and his business partner Mohammad Ghani Safi.
Asked what inspired the move, Waheed said: "I've had this idea in my mind for a while.
"In the town centre we have so many salons and cafes but we are missing a convenience store that is open seven days a week.
"This is a one-stop shop selling everything from fresh fruit and vegetables to meat, phone charges and various essentials and DIY items.
"Our shop has everything!"

The Wardrobe shut down in February amid 'dramatically declining footfall'.
Sisters Roya and Auzita Kasiri, who owned the business, said: "The last thing we wanted to do was close but we feel like there is no other option, even though we love our shop."
Its successor, Mini Pound+ Shop, opened at the start of May and has been well received so far.
Waheed said: "It's been very good.
"We've had a really positive response."

In the coming months, Waheed and Mohammad are looking to turn the downstairs into a cold room where they can prepare halal meats, which are brought in from suppliers.
"There are so many Muslim families in Macclesfield that do not have access to halal meat," Waheed said.
"Currently, there is no halal butcher shop in the Macclesfield area, or any of the surrounding towns for that matter.
"There are also many people, such as the Indian and Middle Eastern communities, who want specific vegetables, things that you cannot find in Aldi or Tesco.
"They have to travel a long way to find them, like Manchester or Crewe."

Mini Pound+ Shop is open from 9.30am to 8.30pm each day, staying open until 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
