Decorations on Macclesfield's Christmas tree are made with recycled wood

Macclesfield's Christmas tree was completed this weekend, in time for Saturday's Step Into Christmas event.

The tree is decorated with panels which read 'hope' and 'NHS', but also featured railings and impeccably-crafted wooden stars.

The latter two were the idea of the Macclesfield eco community action group Grow Macclesfield.

And the wood is sustainably sourced and recycled, so has left a minimal impact on the environment.

Grow Macclesfield's Alex Eifflaender drilled the stars to the tree on Friday afternoon, and spoke with Macclesfield Nub News.

"I get the wood donated from all over, they are usually pallet wood from when I do my work for the allotment or community gardens," she said.

"From these projects, I use the offcuts and created the stars and railings on the Christmas tree as well.

"And all the wood for these stars are going to be used in our community allotment after Christmas as well. So nothing goes to landfill.

It took Alex Eifflaender a month to make the stars and railings.

"The railings were painted by Macclesfield Town Rangers, the Mayor and some schoolchildren," she added.

"And it didn't cost anything. It is made with love really."
