Parents are being urged to keep an eye on their children.

Police in Macclesfield have received multiple reports of children playing in derelict buildings.

Officers will be working with local schools and the council to raise awareness about the dangers this behaviour poses.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Do you know where your children are?

"We have had a number of reports in relation to children playing in derelict buildings in the Macclesfield area.

"The youths are not only causing an issue but also are risking their lives.

"In 2021, a 14-year-old boy was found in a critical condition and sadly died after falling through a roof in a derelict building in the West Midlands.

"In 2018, a boy in Leeds fell 40ft to his death going into an abandoned building.

"We are working with local schools and the council to spread awareness of the dangers but if you are a parent and you are reading this, I urge you to make sure you have the conversation with your child about the dangers of illegally exploring derelict/abandoned buildings."
