Passenger numbers are expected to rise thanks to new and improved bus services.

Those travelling between Macclesfield, Alderley Park, Wilmslow and Manchester Airport can now benefit from more frequent and better connected bus services.

Cheshire East Council has made improvements to the 130 service, which now provides better access to the railway stations in Macclesfield and Wilmslow.

This comes alongside the introduction of the new 150 Monday to Friday service, offering faster connections between the two towns.

Councillor Mark Goldsmith, chair of Cheshire East Council's highways and transport committee, said: "These enhancements really open up transport connections to the northern part of our borough.

"We expect to see a big take up for both of these services, especially with the vastly improved connections to Alderley Park.

"These improvements mean better access to employment, healthcare, education and transport hubs.

"The new connections to Macclesfield and Wilmslow railway stations in particular will bring a huge benefit to residents, commuters and businesses alike.

"Additionally, we are always looking to improve connections to the airport, which these positive changes will also provide.

"This demonstrates how our bus network continues to grow, with more buses, carrying more passengers, who give high satisfaction ratings for their journey. So, if you haven't used a bus lately, then give it a go."

 The changes have been made possible by funding from the government's Bus Service Improvement Plan.

Between them, the 130 and 150 provide buses up to every 30 minutes between Macclesfield and Alderley Park on weekdays.

They also offer quicker journey times, taking 20-25 minutes to get from Macclesfield railway station and the aforementioned business park.

Councillor Lata Anderson, Cheshire East Council's buses member champion, said: "I am delighted to see these changes be implemented as there is real potential to reach a new audience of bus users with the improved connectivity to Alderley Park – a key employment hub in Cheshire East.

"Having the 130 stopping at Wilmslow and Macclesfield railway station, will allow people to step off the train and onto a bus, another step towards an integrated public transport system."
