Two men accused of stealing laundry detergent are due in court.

Macclesfield residents Benjamin Preece and Ashley Whittaker were arrested by Cheshire Police officers on Sunday, February 9.

It came after local authority CCTV made the force aware of an alleged shoplifting in progress at B&M on Exchange Street.

It was reported that a 'large quantity' of laundry detergent had been stolen.

Preece, 43 and of Horseshoe Drive, and Whittaker, 41 and of Churchside, were arrested and subsequently charged with theft from a shop.

Whittaker has also been charged with breaching a criminal behaviour order.

The pair have been remanded in custody and are set to appear at Chester Magistrates Court on Monday, February 10.
