Police to step up patrols after act of 'blatant thuggery' at play park
By Matthew Hancock-Bruce 8th Apr 2026
Police are to step up patrols following an act of 'blatant thuggery' at a play park.
The Tytherington Safer Neighbourhood Team are investigating an incident of antisocial behaviour at the Tytherington Links Play Area on Sandwich Drive.
It has been described as a 'deliberate act of vandalism and defacement of public property'.
Police constable Callum Burness said: "I view this as nothing more than blatant thuggery.
"This kind of mindless vandalism is not just a waste of public money, but an insult to all that value and use these facilities.
"If this vandalism was committed as I suspect by young persons, then they themselves along with their parents or guardians should be truly ashamed."
Following this incident, police have confirmed that patrols on Sandwich Drive will step up in the coming weeks.
Anyone with concerns about anti-social behaviour is asked to complete a Residents Voice Survey online here.
*UPDATE*
Cheshire Police have since confirmed that the above comments from PC Burness relate to reports of anti-social behaviour received on April 2.
It is understood that overnight on April 1, road signage and flower beds had been damaged, the play equipment had been vandalised, bins had been moved, and rubbish had been strewn across the play park.
