Printmaking art group to host first workshop as part of Macclesfield's 1261 Festival
By Hannah Cochrane 10th Jun 2026
A printmaking art group is offering its first free workshop at this year's 1261 Festival.
The Print Block, which formed around August last year, is a group of artists and creatives looking to bring accessible art to Macclesfield.
Having secured a community grant from Macclesfield Town Council, they're launching their first workshop at the 1261 Festival on June 20.
Lindsey Vigurs, a member of The Print Block, said: "We really want to show people what can be achieved in simple printmaking using household equipment, materials, or things that are easily accessible.
"People can come along to the workshop, experience printing and make a collaborative effort to a group abstract piece on these huge rolls of paper that we've got."

The workshop, which will be easy for a range of ages and for people with disabilities, will involve using stamps and different colours of ink to create whatever people wish.
Members of The Print Block have prepared lino cuts as stamps and are bringing together a 'huge collection' of other stamps that have been donated or that they have in their personal stores.
"We've also got a badge maker that's making tiny badges, so people can either choose a piece of the abstract print to make into a badge, or we've also got a tiny relief press, which is in the form of a tortilla maker, but it works really great as a small, very accessible relief press," Lindsey explained.
"So people can also choose tiny little motifs and create their own badge, which will dry almost instantly, then they'll be able to make it into a badge and leave with it."
As an illustrator, graphic designer and artist, Lindsey is passionate about textile work and studied a master's degree in printmaking at Camberwell College of Arts.
"I don't do all forms of printmaking, but I can appreciate them all, and there's something for me about the process that is unlike other forms of media," she explained.
"Printmaking is what I always come back to, and it's my true love."

Hoping to share their passion for printmaking, The Print Block applied for a small community grant of £250 to run this workshop as a free, drop-in activity, meaning people don't have to book in advance.
This was essential to ensure the workshop was open and accessible to as many people as possible.
Lindsey said: "There was quite an easy and quick process to go through with the town council in terms of putting in a bid, and so we came together as a group a couple of times and discussed what we thought might work.
"Going for some kinds of funding and some opportunities can be extremely time-consuming, difficult and sometimes a bit off-putting, but this wasn't the case. It was quite straightforward, and it was a quick decision to give us the funding."
The free, drop-in activity will take place at Unit 37 in the Grosvenor Centre, next to the Quiet Cat Bookshop.
