Another protest has been planned against the Adlington new town plans.

The Supporters of Adlington Greenbelt group have organised a protest for 1pm this Sunday, January 11.

It comes as a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) is carried out, commissioned by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.

Organiser Kasim Awan said: "The protest on Sunday is a stern reminder from residents that Adlington new town has unequivocal opposition.

"Protesters from Manchester and Cheshire are invited to unite against the planned destruction of almost all the greenbelt between Manchester and Macclesfield.

"If this proposal goes ahead, those peaceful country walks will no longer be possible.

"This project will degrade not only East Cheshire's semi-rural aspect, but also access to basic services due to the anticipated 50,000 additional residents."

Alongside the SEA, Homes England has commissioned consultants to evaluate all 12 'New Town' proposals.

This work is expected to be completed by the end of January.

It is then expected that the government will publish draft proposals and the final SEA for inclusion in a public consultation in spring.

This will allow the council, elected members, town and parish councils, businesses, and residents to submit views.

A final decision on the proposals is expected in May or June.

Kasim added: "The government are currently conducting environmental assessments to determine if Adlington is going ahead, having implemented laws to overrule Cheshire East.

"The protest is timed to deliver bold defiance during the review."

The protest will take place by the Poynton Relief Road roundabout, near Adlington Golf Centre.

Those wishing to take part are warned that the protest is weather permitting, so may be delayed to the following Sunday, January 18.
