Students at King's School Macclesfield have achieved record-breaking A-level results.

The 523-year-old school is celebrating its best-ever set of results, produced by a 'wonderful group of young adults'.

Half of all students gained an A* in at least one subject, with 55% of all grades marked either A* or A and 83% marked A* to B.

The results mean King's will inevitably climb even higher in the national academic league tables.

Head of foundation Jason Slack said: "For this year group to gain the best A-level results in the school's history is a tremendous achievement and testament to their hard work and application.

"What is even more special is that they are a wonderful group of young adults who ably demonstrate the school's ethos of equipping young people with the character and skills necessary to meet the challenges of an ever-changing world.

"I couldn't be more proud of their achievements, both academic and more generally."

Asher Raymon, 17 and from Congleton, is one of seven students to achieve at least three A*s.

His clean sweep of A*s in maths, computer science and physics has seen him earn a place at Manchester University, where he will study computer science.

Macclesfield resident Harry Shanahan, 18, got three A* in maths, further maths and computer science with an A in Physics.

Harry, whose long term ambition is to help 'change the world through technology', will also study computer science at Manchester University.

Another high-flying computer scientist is Annabel Hawkins, 18 and from Macclesfield, who got four A*s in maths, further maths, computer science and physics and will go to Murray Edwards College, Cambridge University.

Zac Ransom, 18, from Macclesfield, got his A*s in business, economics and sport and will take a year out working at King's as a sports coach before heading to university.

Fellow Maxonian Matthew Ennis, 18, earned A*s in psychology, chemistry and biology.

The accomplished rugby player will study biomedical science at Sheffield University.
