Refurb helps bring 'buzz' back to village hub

A refurbishment has helped bring a 'buzz' back to a village shop.
Gawsworth Hub has undergone a major transformation, with new stock and a fresh lick of paint.
More than that, the revamp is designed to help keep the shop and café at the heart of the community for years to come.
Diane Lynch, volunteer director and treasurer, said: "The fresh new look, packed with local products, gifts, and even a pet food range, has brought a real buzz back to the hub.
"Volunteers love the space, and the shop and café have become an even stronger heart of the village – somewhere to meet, enjoy freshly baked cakes, and support local producers."

Back in 2011, the people of Gawsworth came together to save their village shop, turning it into a thriving, volunteer-run hub.
Inn 2019, the community took another leap by purchasing the building next door, with help from National Lottery funding.
This led to the creation of the café and meeting, which Diane says proved to be 'invaluable' during Covid, offering a safe place for connection when it was needed most.
Now, in 2025, the shop itself has been given a much-needed refurbishment under the guidance of newly appointed chairperson and volunteer, Sue Magee.
Diane said: "This revamp isn't just about a lick of paint – it's about keeping the business sustainable, ensuring the shop and café can thrive for years to come, and giving the village something to be proud of."
