Macclesfield FC supporters have praised their Director of Football and now manager Robbie Savage ahead of a huge FA Cup clash on Saturday, October 12.

The ex-Premier League footballer has guided the Silkmen into the fourth-round qualifiers of the FA Cup and remains undefeated this season in 15 games.

Geoff Findlow, a lifelong Macclesfield FC fan, said Savage's introduction has been fantastic: "I think Robbie (Savage) is doing a fantastic job as Macclesfield manager. He has enthusiasm in abundance, great knowledge of the game and obviously has the players on board with his views and man management."

Lewis Beck, a passionate Macclesfield FC supporter echoed Findlow's positivity, however, he highlighted Savage's relationship with the fans: "He (Savage) is very connected with the fans and knows what the fans want and feel.

"He is very passionate but it's his behind-the-scenes staff as well, such as Danny Whittaker, who he's brought back to the coaching department and that is a great example of where I think he has a lot of understanding for the fans because he has a lot of people in his team that have a very good understanding of Macc."

Despite Macclesfield nearly being promoted last season, Savage's introduction came after a 'harsh' sacking to previous manager Michael Clegg.

Beck said: "The decision was harsh as we only just missed out in the play-off final so I am not sure whether the sacking was justified.

"However, we (the Macclesfield fanbase) cannot complain too much as we are undefeated this season and recently, we have scored a lot of goals, and the team looks like it is begging to start to click."

The Silkmen have netted 38 this season, conceding only eight goals. They will be aiming to continue this trend against National League opposition Tamworth to progress to the First Round Proper of the FA Cup.

Savage may have been unpopular upon entrance to the club, however, he seems to have won over the Cheshire side's fanbase but some fans still have doubts.

Seamus Walsh, a lifelong Silkman, believes Savage has the potential to be over-involved with the club and be too rash: "My big issue with Savage has always been his need to be in control of things like being in the dressing room when he wasn't the manager.

"(I think) he has been chopping and changing managers far too often, likewise with changing goalkeepers.

"Him (Savage) becoming Macclesfield Manager was inevitable and fans saw it coming from day one but he's doing very well at the moment, so it is not a big issue.

"I do worry down the line if things aren't going well, does he have the ability to sack himself, yet still play his important role within the club? I only see it ending badly."

Robbie Savage will be looking to add additional confidence to his fanbase in the East Midlands, where his side could progress into the First Round Proper of the FA Cup.

UPDATE: 14/10/24 The Silkmen lost the cup tie to the Staffordshire side, by four goals to two. You can watch highlights HERE.
