Schoolchildren have helped create a giant illuminated advent calendar.

Arighi Bianchi has once again transformed its iconic store, signalling the start of the festive season.

The display, which stands 110 feet high and 45 feet wide, has become one of Macclesfield's most recognisable seasonal attractions.

This year, it features illustrations by children from Whirley Primary School, alongside a competition to win a trip to New York as part of Arighi's Postcards from… campaign.

Sarah Bianchi, CEO of Arighi Bianchi, said: "Our store front advent calendar has become quite famous – not only in Macclesfield but further afield.

"We're particularly excited about this year's display because we've been able to involve some very talented young artists from the local community.

"They've helped us create something unique and we hope the children and their families will enjoy seeing their creations brought to life on such a grand scale."

Established in 1854, Arighi Bianchi has been a fixture of the Macclesfield skyline for more than 170 years, with its distinctive Grade II-listed building one of the town's best-known landmarks.

The giant advent calendar will form part of the store's Christmas 2026 celebrations, alongside festive shopping events, seasonal displays and a family fun day with Father Christmas.

The collaboration with Whirley Primary School follows a visit by the Bianchi family earlier this year, when pupils performed a play about the history of the 172-year-old furniture business.

The children's original illustrations will also be exhibited inside the showroom throughout the festive season, giving families the opportunity to see their artwork on display.
