The search is on for a new tenant to take over a Rainow pub.

Karen Lawrence has announced she will soon be stepping down as landlady of The Robin Hood.

Having taken over the pub in 2023, Karen has decided to call it a day and enjoy her retirement.

She said: "I'm no spring chicken and this, done properly, is a very physical job which I am now struggling to do.

"I have also been blessed with two beautiful grandchildren and want to enjoy more time with them."

Karen admits the challenges facing the hospitality industry have also played a part in her decision to retire.

She said: "This has been a difficult year, as people rein in their belts and with bills increasing, there is little cash left for luxuries like drinks and meals in the pub.

"The collapse and subsequent closure of the road to Whaley Bridge last January has also been catastrophic to our passing trade, resulting in reduced opening hours and less staff to try to make ends meet.

"It's such a hard game for very little return, except the privilege of meeting and serving loads of lovely people, for which I am eternally thankful!"

Karen will depart The Robin Hood after service on Thursday, January 1.

She will then hand the keys over to former tenants, Brian and Zara Fisher.

Brian and Zara will be 'holding the fort' while the owners, Punch Pubs, search for new tenants.

"A massive thank you to Karen and her team for all their hard work during their period of stewardship," Brian said.

"We are busy in the background getting everything ready for the second of January.

"By keeping the doors open, fires lit and the lights on, Punch will hopefully find it easier to market the property and find a suitable tenant to run our village pub.

"Once the agreement is signed the property will undergo some significant work, this will mean the closure of the pub for a few weeks while the work is completed and new tenants move in."
