Sharks, royals and Oompa Loompas battle it out in the 2026 Macclesfield Pancake Race
By Matthew Hancock-Bruce 17th Feb 2026
Oompa Loompas, sharks, the Fantastic Four and a panda faced off in a beloved annual tradition.
The Macclesfield Pancake Race made a welcome return to the cobbles on Shrove Tuesday, February 17.
Teams representing a number of local organisations, including the Silk Museum, Bollington Brewing and Holy Trinity Church, battled it out in a series of relay races, flipping pancakes and sprinting up and down Mill Street.
Many of them came dressed for the occasion too, with the Addams Family winning the prize for best costume.
On the track, Specsavers went head to head with Horrible Hips and Knees, a team comprised of King Henry VIII, George III, Queen Victoria and Elizabeth I.
It was the royals who came out on top, crowned the winners of this year's Macclesfield Pancake Race.
Of course, at the heart of the event lies a very important cause, with funds raised helping support the work of East Cheshire NHS Charity.
Lily Preston, the charity's fundraising and events manager, said: "It was incredible to see the Macclesfield community come together with such energy and enthusiasm for today's Pancake Race.
"We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who flipped, ran, and cheered from the sidelines; the atmosphere was fantastic!
"The funds raised from the event are vital for East Cheshire NHS Charity.
"This support allows us to go above and beyond for our patients by providing the added extras and enhanced care that make a real difference to their experience.
"We are so grateful for the public's continued generosity and for everyone who made this event such a success."
