'Poor weather' sees Silk Road improvement works delayed as closures extended

'Poor weather' has seen works along the A523 Silk Road delayed.
The main road through Macclesfield has been hit with full road and lane closures over the past two weeks as Cheshire East Council works to improve Gas Road Bridge.
The project got underway on Monday, January 26, and was originally due to be completed by Sunday, February 15.
However, due to recent weather conditions, the works are now expected to be finished by Saturday, February 21.
A spokesperson for the council said: "Improvement works on the A523 Silk Road have been delayed by one week due to recent poor weather, which meant our teams had to temporarily leave the site.
"Because of the specialist methods and bonding materials needed to seal the bridge joints, this part of the work cannot take place during periods of prolonged heavy rain.
"Although this process is routinely completed throughout the winter months, persistent rain prevents the bonding material from setting correctly, so dry conditions are needed for it to cure."
They continued: "As a result, the overnight full road closures between 10pm and 5am will now continue until the revised completion date of February 21. Daytime lane closures will also remain in place.
"The works on the A523 are essential to avoid the potential of lengthier future works.
"We appreciate the disruption that highway works can cause and thank people for their patience."
