The Silk Road will shut overnight for two weeks.
Cheshire East Council has confirmed that 'essential' improvement works on Gas Road Bridge will get underway on Monday, January 26.
The works are expected to be completed by Sunday, February 15.
During this time, a road closure will be put in place between 10pm and 5am (excluding Sunday nights) between the junction with the A537 Buxton Road and the Hurdsfield Road roundabout.
There will also be lane closures in place between 5am and 10pm from Thursday, January 29, to Saturday, January 31, and then again from Tuesday, February 3, to Thursday, February 5.
A statement released by the council reads: "The scheme includes replacement of the bridge and carriageway joints, installation of new street lighting, improvements to the footway, reconstructing and cleansing of gullies, and resurfacing and remarking of the road between the junction of A537 Buxton Road junction and just north of the bridge.
"Whilst the majority of the works will be carried out overnight, the daytime lane closures will be in place to allow materials to set.
"Pedestrian access will be maintained, and cyclists will be required to follow the signed diversion.
"Local businesses will remain open, and delays are expected, so motorists are encouraged to plan journeys ahead.
"Advance warning signage will be in place, and onsite staff will be available throughout the works to provide advice and assistance."
