Shed fire at Macclesfield primary school believed to be started deliberately

By James Kelly 14th Aug 2020

Firefighters were called to put out a shed fire on the grounds of Upton Priory School this afternoon which is believed to have been started deliberately.

Crews arrived at the scene on Berwick Close at around 1:15pm following reports of the fire within the school's grounds.

A spokesperson for the fire service said when crews arrived at the scene the shed was "well alight" and they used a hose jet reel to extinguish the fire.

They then damped the shed down to make it safe and the fire did not spread beyond the shed which was destroyed by the flames.

One fire engine from Macclesfield and one from Bollington were in attendance at the scene for close to an hour.

Cheshire police are appealing to anyone with information on this incident to report it by calling 101 and quoting IML 780159 or to give the details via their website.
