A trendy Macclesfield venue is about to get even trendier.

Piccante, a Chestergate restaurant which opened six months ago, is to expand with a new hotel offering.

The same team that brought Macclesfield the Spanish-Brazilian fusion of Piccante, will open The Chestergate Hotel in the coming months in the same building.

Already a popular place to eat, the family-ran business wants to be known for being a great place to sleep as well.

Piccante and The Chestergate Hotel are led by husband-and-wife team Felipe and Haseena Casado.

Their business is already spread across two gorgeous floors with a bar-dining area on the ground floor and an elegant resutaraunt upstairs.

Now, they will ascend to a third floor with this new facet of the business.

Haseena revealed how the plans came about:

"The hotel idea came about when we first took the place," she said.

"While we absolutely loved the building [and still do], there was a part of me that thought 'how do I make it flow'?

"You can't really tell it is a restaurant outside, it does look more like an office or art gallery. So as much as I love the building, I thought to myself what am I going to do here.

"I did speak with the landlord to figure out what is the calling for this place, I could feel that there was one.

"We opened the restaurant in December, had a great Christmas, and these past few months have given me time to chat to the customers and have feedback.

"And a lot of the feedback was from people wondering whether this was a hotel.

"So I thought okay, we already have hotel lobby vibes, let's do something with that.

"I spoke with the landlord, who said they didn't mind. They informed me they were moving out the third floor to a private medical practice down the road.

They also hope to introduce a Latino twist on a Sunday Roast later in the year, with international additions including cerviche and tomahawk steak, something you won't be able to get anywhere else in Macc. (Image - Alexander Greensmith / Macclesfield Nub News)

"My vibe with Lilac Cottage [Haseena and Felipe's other Macclesfield restaurant, on New Road in Prestbury] was to always listen to the customer. It is the most important thing for me.

"We want to create that small, boutique hotel that customers already presumed we were."

The hotel will be spread across Charles Roe House, and Charles Roe Chambers, which is a building next door to Piccante above Domino's Pizza.

"We already have an up-and-running two-bedroom apartment on Airbnb.

"And we'll be adding another apart-hotel, and this one you will be able to walk into from Piccante.

"In total, we'll have three bedrooms, one suite and two apart-hotels. Some you can access from Piccante, some not, but all by us. So there will be options for families or those who don't want the whole concierge vibe."

To make these changes, from Wednesday 17 May, Piccante will temporarily wind down their lunch offering. (Barring a few exceptions of already booked lunch bookings beyond this date, that will be honoured).

Evening hours will remain unaffected, with that menu starting at 5pm.

Haseena went into detail about some of the renovations, which includes sprucing up the already lush dining area.

"We're moving our bar around on the ground floor, the feel will be lofty and green," explained Haseena.

"We will have planters on the ceiling. It is going to be a very relaxed speakeasy place. And we'll rebrand our ground floor as The Chestergate Hotel Lobby, with Piccante as its in-house restaurant.

"So for the first time we will introduce breakfast, with sandwiches and Brazilian fry-ups sourced with local ingredients. The Lobby will also serve great coffee, and you can have a bit of tapas or nibbles for lunch.

"We want it to be a great space that people can come and work in as well.

"The Piccante restaurant will all be on the middle floor on Thursday and Friday evenings, as well as all-day Saturday and Sunday. We'll even add some new booths here to add our own stamps on it."

The downstairs revamps and rebrand will be done by the end of June.

The Chestergate Hotel will aim to open by Christmas, but may take a few extra months.

If you can't wait until then, why not book in for dinner?

Already using local produce in their kitchen, they are keen to work with local interior firms for the refurb, and will strengthen links with Chestergate plant shop George in the Jungle to galvanise the new lobby.
