Macclesfield vets' puppy pre-school offers chance for young canines to connect

Puppies are going to pre-school!
Wright & Morten Vets in Macclesfield is encouraging new dog owners to sign up for one of their upcoming, free-to-attend, puppy pre-schools.
The sessions, run by Cal Thorpe from Off leash Dog Training, are designed to help pups build confidence, learn social skills, and develop a positive association with the veterinary clinic.
She said: "Being asked to run early puppy classes at Wright & Morten has been lovely.
"In an environment that a lot of dogs struggle, this is a great way to get pups use to the smells and sounds before their acceptance window closes.
"This means that later in life, it will be less stressful for these pups as adults.
"We've set the little workshop up, so every puppy thrives in the environment. "

The puppy pre-school runs every Monday from 6pm to 7pm at Wright & Morten's Macclesfield branch on Heather Close.
Sessions are free for all clients and non-clients.
Puppies need to be at least eight weeks old and had their first injections but not yet gone outside.
The sessions take place in a dedicated room filled with toys, cardboard boxes, a crate to introduce crate training and multiple different surfaces such as plastic steps, rough dog ramps and exercise steps to allow the puppies to get used to different surfaces and learn how to walk up and down stairs.
There are also plenty of free treats to encourage the puppies and to reward the correct behaviours.
Of course, it's also fine if all your puppy wants to do is sit and watch.
Hazel Simpson, animal care assistant at Wright & Morten, said: "We've had so many wonderful characters over the last few weeks.
"Some charge right in, sniffing everywhere, playing with toys and wanting to meet the other puppies while other sit back and take it all in at their own pace.
"Every puppy has its own individual personality and our hope is these classes empower owners to be confident in what they are doing at home."

Wright & Morten also offer handling and grooming training, making puppies easier to groom and manage both at home and the vets.
Hazel added: "Puppies which are used to being examined grow in to adults who are used to being examined, making owners', the pet's and veterinary staff's lives much easier
"These classes are essential for building a strong bond between the puppy, the owner, and the veterinary clinic."
Puppy pre-school places are limited and booking is essential so call 01625 501 500 to secure your spot.
