Pet owners warned of potential summer danger after grass seed leaves dachshund needing surgery

Pet owners have been warned about the potential dangers of grass seeds.
Wright and Morten Vets recently cared for Coco the dachshund, who had to undergo surgery to remove a grass seed stuck in the side of her face.
If left untreated, these seeds can cause fits and infections.
Senior vet George Bracegirdle is taking this opportunity to urge dog walkers to keep a close eye on their furry friends when heading out and about this summer.
He said: "During summer walks, grass seeds can pose a serious risk to dogs.
"These barbed seeds easily lodge in fur and can penetrate the skin, especially between the toes, causing painful abscesses.
"If inhaled or caught in the ears, they may lead to sneezing fits, head shaking, or ear infections — and in severe cases, require surgical removal.
"Owners should watch for persistent licking, limping, swelling, or sudden discomfort after walks.
"Regular grooming and checking paws, ears, and armpits can help catch problems early."
