Monday (08/09)
The Ballad of Maria Marten

MADS Theatre's 2025-26 season gets underway with The Ballad of Maria Marten.
This tragic drama runs from Monday (September 8) to Saturday (September 13).
"Summer, 1827. In a red barn in Suffolk, Maria Marten awaits her lover. A year later, hidden in a grain sack under the barn floor, Maria's body is found – barely identifiable – and the manhunt begins," reads the theatre's website.
"The 'Red Barn Murder' had all the hallmarks of a classic crime drama: a missing body, a disreputable squire, and a rural village stuck in its age-old traditions. But whilst it sent shockwaves throughout the country, Maria's own story was lost.
"The Ballad of Maria Marten rediscovers that story, bringing it back to vivid, urgent life."
Further details, including how to purchase tickets, can be found here.
Sequence dancing

Prestbury Village hall is hosting a beginners sequence dancing class.
No partner or experience is needed, just head over on Monday to learn all the popular routines, with classes priced at £8 an hour.

Bollington SciBar

This month's SciBar, at the Vale Inn in Bollington, will look at how errors in clinical publications contribute to a genetic medicine diagnostic odyssey and how can we change it.
The speaker is Dr Peter Freeman, a lecturer in healthcare sciences at the University of Manchester.
As a member of working groups within key globally leading quality standards organisations, he and his research are at the forefront of policy development which aims to improve patient outcomes by making published diagnostic data findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable.
