A Macclesfield school has teamed up with an artist from our town in a new heartwarming project.

The pupils from St John the Evangelist Primary School on Ivy Road Macclesfield were invited by Peaks & Plains Housing Trust to bring a splash of colour to the hoardings across the road from their school.

They worked with local artist Becca Smith to paint a section of hoarding that surrounds a building site across the road from the school. The painting, which shows the plants and animals that live in Macclesfield Forest, was completed by children from 4-10 years of age.

Mr Mark Harrison, Head Teacher, said, 'This artwork has massively improved the view from our school. The project has been a great opportunity for all year groups to express themselves on a big scale and to brighten up our neighbourhood.'

Peaks & Plains has submitted plans to build a mix of affordable homes including apartments, bungalows and houses, along with dedicated parking spaces on this site.

The Trust hopes that their plans, which were revised in April 2022 following consultation, will be discussed by the Cheshire East Planning Committee in November.

Mark Howden, CEO of Peaks & Plains added, 'I'm delighted with what the children have achieved in just a couple of days. It will brighten up this section of Ivy Road while we work on making long-term improvements to the area by building much-needed affordable new homes.'

Materials and equipment for this project were supplied by generous donations from Warrington-based Bell Group and local business Capitol Carpets.

It is not Becca's only recent art projects in Macclesfield. She recently had an art exhibition with her fellow female Macclesfield artists,

She also co-launched a line of apparel opposing the controversial Danes moss housing developments in South Macclesfield.
