The Coronavirus vaccine rollout in Macclesfield has been delayed after a batch was stored at the wrong temperature.

The error has compromised 975 doses of the Pfizer-Biontech vaccine which were due to be administered through GP surgeries at Waters Green Medical Centre, Macclesfield Nub News understands.

Those people booked in to receive the jab have been informed of the delay and can expect to be called in at a later date.

A spokesperson for the Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), who are managing the rollout locally, said: "We apologise for any inconvenience and disappointment caused to patients. This temporary issue is being resolved and patients should continue to come forward for their vaccination when they are asked to attend."

It has been logistically challenging to rollout the vaccine to environments like GP surgeries and care homes due to temperature requirements of -70C to maintain maximum efficacy- much lower than the average vaccine.

To date, more than half a million people across the UK have received their first dose of the vaccine. Alternatives such as those from AstraZeneca and Moderna are expected to be approved by drug regulators in the coming weeks.
