Temporary traffic lights on the A523 are finally coming down.

Cheshire East Council has provided an update on the works taking place on Mill House Bridge in Adlington.

Following further delays caused by storms Amy and Claudia, the temporary traffic lights are set to be removed, 19 months after they were installed in May 2024.

A spokesperson for Cheshire East Council said: "Works on Mill House Bridge, in Adlington, are now in their final phase.

"Due to additional strengthening works required on the bridge foundations, and delays caused by storms Amy and Claudia, the removal of temporary traffic lights has been rescheduled to Friday, December 19, 2025."

The spokesperson continued: "Works such as this are always likely to be complex. The extra works are necessary after ground conditions proved significantly worse than the initial geotechnical investigations suggested.

"The two recent storms also impacted progress, requiring floodwater and debris to be removed to ensure site and operative safety. Cheshire East was not alone in experiencing these storm-related impacts and project issues.

"We recognise the importance of this route and are working hard to complete the project as quickly as possible. Additional measures include extended working hours and weekend works to minimise disruption.

"Our priorities for any works are to ensure that we get it right, that public money is used most effectively and disruption is kept to a minimum. We thank people for their patience and understanding as we work towards completion."

It would have taken less time, less money and less disruption if they had just demolished it and rebuilt it.
