The Macclesfield Academy is celebrating a record-breaking year of GCSE success.

The secondary school on Park Lane has achieved its best-ever Attainment 8 score - calculated by adding together pupils' highest scores from eight government approved subjects.

Students achieved excellent outcomes across the curriculum, with English and mathematics continuing to perform strongly and science achieving its best results in the school's history.

Headteacher Mat Galvin said: "We are incredibly proud of our students and staff.

"These results reflect years of hard work, ambition and determination.

"What makes them particularly special is that they have been achieved in a school where relationships, inclusion and belonging are at the heart of everything we do.

"At The Macclesfield Academy, we believe that being a kind, friendly and family-focused school is not an alternative to academic excellence. In fact, it is the foundation of it."

CEO of The Sir John Brunner Foundation, Matt Snelson, added: "I am delighted for The Macclesfield Academy's Year 11 students and their families and congratulate them on their fantastic achievements.

"My sincere thanks go to our colleagues for their dedication and hard work in supporting them. I wish every student the very best for the future, wherever their next steps may take them."

The academy is also celebrating its highest-ever number of students progressing to Sir John Deane's Sixth Form College, alongside many others moving on to a range of high-quality post-16 destinations.
