A Macclesfield-Manchester rock band have released a rousing ballad as their latest single.

The Perps, who have two members and a manager from Macclesfield, just dropped their first single of 2022 titled Wake Up on Saturday.

It is quite the volte-face from their last single Megalomaniac, which was as heavy, gritty and pacy track of anger.

Their latest tune, is a sweet track about being unsure over unrequited love, with a big Queen-like chorus.

Drummer Alex Visinoni shines in the mix, as does vocalist Seb Smith using the higher range of his voice.

Anthemic backing vocals of the song's title at the end of the track are another highlight.

The Macclesfield Academy alumni and bassist Arik Ross also shines.

Retired Macclesfield artist Dr Ian Pollock designed the cover art for the band.

The single's merch will also be produced by Macclesfield man Joe D Hanrahan.

Wake Up on Saturday is a hidden gem from their early acoustic writing sessions back when they first formed the band in 2017.

It is now a staple closing number at live shows and has ultimately made it into the studio.

"Wake Up On Saturday demonstrates the full capability of our writing," the band said.

"The lyrics explore the confusion and pain of unrequited love in an ironically uplifting and hopeful musical style.

"We've combined the two in our latest studio sessions to create our proudest work yet."

The track - which is a call-to-action in a new and uncertain relationship - has already received radio airplay by XS Manchester.

The Perps are an indie alternative rock band comprised of: Seb Smith - Lead Vocals, Rhythm Guitar, Tom Burn - Lead Guitar, Vocals, Arik Ross - Bass Guitar, Vocals, Alex Visinoni - Drums.
