The Treacle Tap has reopened in Macclesfield.
The Sunderland Street bar which shut in 2021, has picked up where it left off, under new owner Buxton Brewery.
The reopening has given jobs to four staff at The Treacle Tap, part of the 40 Buxton Brewery hire across their brewery, Buxton bar and now the Treacle Tap in Macc.
The Treacle Tap's Bar Manager will be a familiar face to the Macclesfield beer scene.
Neil Cameron previously managed the previous incarnation of The Treacle Tap.
"It good that it has reopened, 18 months without it is too long," said Neil.
"It was the first bar in Macc to get these foreign beers, and the real ale scene was just starting to take off."
The bar dates back to 2010, at the start of Britain's craft beer revolution.
The strong brand created by the former owners lives on, and not much has changed for those who used to visit the former version of the business.
Dom Metcalfe is Managing Director of Buxton Brewery, he explained why the High Peak beer experts have taken on the Sunderland Street venue.
"Buxton Brewery as as business, we are having a bit of a redirection", said Dom.
"And part of that is owning our heartland, which is essentially 15 miles in any direction from our brewery. Macclesfield falls into that. We plan on opening quite a few new venues over the next 18 months.
"This venue was available. The reputation precedes itself. The Treacle Tap is an iconic venue in Macclesfield, Cheshire and the UK. To take it on, it is very important for us.
"We thought it was a good opportunity to showcase our beers in a town not too far from us.
"When we first got the keys, we walked in and it was almost like it had shut the day before, not 18 months ago.
"It still had that feel of what The Treacle Tap was all about. We decided to keep it as The Treacle Tap, there is the introduction of our beers in there, but we didn't need to do anything to the building or change anything else.
"The Sunday quiz was pretty legendary, and that will be coming back starting this Sunday. We will aim to bring back food in the New Year.
"Our opening times are 3pm to 10pm or 11pm most days, and we are shut on Tuesdays.
"We are opening on Mondays, which is unusual for Macc from what I understand. We have decided to give it a shot to appeal to those people looking for a drink on a Monday."
And being one of the few Macclesfield businesses to reference Macclesfield's 'Treacletown' heritage, the bar will be especially busy on Treacle Market Sundays.
The community have responded positively to the reopening so far.
Dom explained what beers are on offer: "Buxton have got a reputation for having historically brewed hundreds of beers over the years."
"We are going to be a bit more structured next year having a fixed core range and a fixed seasonal range.
"However, we will continue to do lots of collaborations and bring back beers from the archive.
"We are always going to have seven keg beers on at The Treacle Tap, plus a keg cider, and three cask beers as well. Almost all of them will rotate.
"We look forward to welcoming you at The Treacle Tap."
