A convoy of Travellers made their way to Macclesfield's South Park yesterday evening and caused chaos on a residential street they used to attempt access.

Residents of Maple Avenue- which only has pedestrian access to South Park- were faced with dozens of caravans and campervans mistakenly using the narrow cul-de-sac.

A video posted on Facebook, which now appears to be deleted, showed the caravans lined up on the street.

At the scene at around 9:20pm, residents told Macclesfield Nub News that most of the caravans had dispersed by that time, but some were still within the park.

One resident who preferred not to be identified said: "You missed the most of them. There were quite a few caravans on the road and in the park, but they seem to be moving on."

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police told Macclesfield Nub News: "At 6pm on Wednesday 25 June officers were called to reports on an unauthorised encampment at South Park, Macclesfield.

"Local officer attended the scene and found that there were six caravans present. Officers spoke to the occupants and they stated that they were planning to leave the area."

The spokesman said the caravans had left the park when they returned at 10:30pm.

Macclesfield Nub News has contacted Cheshire East Council for further information about this incident.

Note: Pictures were taken after 9pm when most of the caravans and campervans had already left the area.
