Macclesfield lads Cassia discuss social media identity on their new tune 'Similar'

Macclesfield band Cassia have shared a brand new single titled Similar

The tropical single is the first taster of the band's forthcoming album, and comes complete with an official video, for which you can viewed above.

It is the first single released after the band returned to Macclesfield this autumn, to see their families ahead of their electric Manchester gig earlier in the month.

Self-produced in the band's Berlin studio, 'Similar' is a shining example of the band's knack for helplessly catchy melodies, but it also carries an important message.

Lead singer and Prestbury lad Rob Ellis explains, "It is about people hiding behind their social media profiles, saying things to and about someone that they would never say to their face and making unsubstantiated judgements.

"That anonymity we have created for ourselves and the power it holds is something so easily and often abused, it's scary really. We want to draw attention to how it can affect others, and encourage those guilty of making such comments to think about how they would feel if it were to happen to them. Cause we're all so similar, no?

"It's really important to us, as we want to be a part of a community that is kind and positive. If you wouldn't say it to someone's face, then you probably shouldn't say it at all."

'Similar' is the first single from Cassia since their Magnifier EP released earlier this year.

It has been a prolific year for the band, which also dropped the Powerlines [L]https://open.spotify.com/album/0fbOEXiz2dwuN1j58Gxtd7?si=hPMHjRWyRdK6gtZUvCLXsg[L+]EP in 2021.

Their releases were collectively championed on BBC Radio 1 by Annie Mac, Clara Amfo and Jack Saunders, and the latter has premiered the new track on the airwaves tonight.

The Macclesfield band, which is a trio completed by Lou Cotterill, from the Moss estate, and Jake Leff, from Tytherington, were described as 'Macclesfield's finest' and a 'Wonderful Band' by BBC Radio 1 DJ Clara Amfo.

Similar's release is the first from their currently untitled sophmore album, which is presumed to release in 2022.

But first, the Macc band will play in Germany and the Netherlands until December 6.

BBC Radio 1 DJ Jack Saunders said: "Cassia are a band who have amazing intricacies to their music and are able to take that calmness and supersize it in a pop format."

The three-minute and 14 second track is out now, and can be listened to here.

They have almost 40 million plays on Spotify as of November 2021.

You can also find the band on Apple Music, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and their website.

They also have 8,300 subscribers on YouTube where the lyric video for Similar premiered.
