A Macclesfield woman is celebrating after her bustling little sandwich bar has turned one.

Windmill Sandwich Bar, located on 248 Black Road, has lots of passing trade, despite being in a residential area away from the town centre.

Located near the fringes of an Industrial Estate and Windmill Park, the quaint little sandwich bar packs big flavours and even bigger portions.

Lifelong Macclesfield resident Debby Parmiter opened her second sandwich bar last autumn, so Macclesfield Nub News went down for a bite to find out the secret of their success.

"We're very grateful for all our customers. We get a lot of trade and regulars" said Debby.

"It is a great little shop. Everyone talks to each other and we know a lot of them by name.

"A lot of the customers come up here from my time at Nosh and Breks [despite them being one mile apart].

"Every morning we get at least ten builders come in, and we know them all well.

"Our best-seller is the chilli con carne. So does the build your own breakfast menu and jacket potatoes.

"I always order the Cumberland sausage, or eat the chilli myself as well. Someone even gave us a review to say that our chilli 'is the best in town'.

"For the ingredients, we use A D Lang Butches [of King Edward Street] and the bread from Don Millers [in the Grosvenor Centre]."

All but one of the dishes cost under a fiver, and are all made with passion and care by Debby and her team.

They can cater for specific dietary requirements on request.

"I used to run Nosh & Breks in Hurdsfield for 17 years, but I sold it," added Debby.

"I then had the opportunity to cook for contractors at AstraZeneca, but when lockdown came that job went.

"So I got a delivery job and saw that this unit was empty. It used to be a sandwich bar and a newsagents before that, so I decided to take it over and open it last September.

"As well as walk-in, we do lunch to order and afternoon tea boxes as well. The tea boxes contain assorted sandwiches, my own cakes, scones, salad and pastries. All for a tenner per person."

"I love being a business owner for the people. I love getting here at 6am in the morning and starting the cooking, which is usually the meat and potato pie early on.

"I do get sleepless nights over the energy crisis. But I still love my job, thank you to everyone for their support."

They can also be booked for outside catering events. Call 01625 668854 for any enquiries.
