Two men have been arrested as part of an investigation into the theft of cooking oil.
The men were spotted 'acting suspiciously' on Dickens Lane in Poynton around 4.15am on Tuesday, August 25, by Cheshire Police officers who were on on patrol.
Officers spoke to the men and, upon noticing a strong smell of cooking oil, decided to conduct a search of the area.
Their search revealed a white Peugeot van which contained 15 drums of cooking oil.
The two men, a 35-year-old from Doncaster and an 18-year-old from Sheffield, were both arrested on suspicion of theft and remain in custody at this time.
Police Constable Barlow, of the Macclesfield Local Policing Unit, said: "Enquiries in relation to this incident are in the early stages and as part of our investigation, we're keen to hear from any local businesses who believe they may be missing any cooking oil.
"Anyone with any information is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101 or visit www.cheshire.police.uk/tell-us quoting IML-2403379."
